May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and Family & Morale, Welfare and Recreation has a variety of STRONG B.A.N.D.S. activities ready to get us up and on our feet. We all work better when we’re physically and mentally fit.
Here is the list of activities at Fort Gregg Adams.
Outdoor Recreation
Kayaking is a fun, low-impact activity that can improve your aerobic fitness, strength and flexibility. Specific health benefits of kayaking include improved cardiovascular fitness, and increased muscle strength - particularly in the back, arms, shoulders and chest, from moving the paddle. Paddling increases torso and leg strength, while reducing wear-and-tear on joints and tissues.

Biking on the varied terrain trails in the Petersburg National Battlefield Park will not only strengthen the legs, core, and upper body, it will also improve your cardiovascular health by strengthening the heart and lungs. Biking burns calories and helps maintain a healthy weight and reduces stress. It's a low-impact exercise that puts less stress on joints compared to running or jogging. Additionally, riding on trails will increase your stamina while improving balance and coordination.

Are you looking for an exhilarating way to boost your physical fitness and enhance your mental well-being? Archery
By appointment on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Archery is a full-body workout, particularly engaging the arms, back, and core muscles. It builds upper body strength, including the rotator cuff, and improves overall fitness through the act of drawing and holding the bow. The precision required in archery refines hand-eye coordination, improving the ability to react to visual stimuli, while maintaining a stable stance while holding the bow and shooting helps improve balance.
